==歷史==
在1873年，[[古生物學家]][[愛德華·德林克·科普]]（Edward Drinker Cope）在[[美國]]西部挖出了一些[[恐龍]]的骨骸標本，隔年他將這些標本命名為大師龍<ref name=EDC74>{{Cite journal|author=Cope, E.D.|year=1874|title=Report on the stratigraphy and Pliocene vertebrate paleontology of northern Colorado|journal=Bulletin of the U.S. Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories|volume=9|pages=9-28}}</ref>。[[正模標本]]（編號AMNH 3950）包括了一頭亞成體的三節[[背椎]]、四肢骨頭、以及角髓<ref name=DFG97>{{cite book|title=Dinosaurs: The Encyclopedia|year=1997|chapter=Polyonax|author=Glut, D.F.|pages=723-724.|publisher=McFarland & Company|id=ISBN 978-0-89950-917-4}}</ref>。大師龍曾一度被誤會為[[鴨嘴龍科]]，或是[[糙齒龍]]的[[異名]]<ref name=JBH02>{{Cite journal|author=Hatcher, J.B.|year=1902|title=The genus and species of the Trachodontidae (Hadrosauridae, Claosauridae) Marsh|journal=Annals of the Carnegie Museum|volume=14|issue=1|pages=377-386}}</ref>。但在1907年的第一個角龍類[[專題論文]]中，大師龍被確認屬於[[角龍科]]，而骨骸材料不明確。目前這個學名已經很少被使用，因為大師龍的研究早於有角恐龍的研究。大師龍目前被歸類於角龍科的分類未定屬。
