錦織圭贏得了12個單打冠軍，並在2014年美國公開賽上獲得亞軍，使他成為代表亞洲國家進入大滿貫單打決賽的第一位男性選手。他還成為亞洲第一位獲得ATP世界巡迴賽總決賽資格的人，並在2014年和2016年打入了半決賽。此外，錦織圭在2016年夏季奧運會上擊敗拉斐爾·納達爾（Rafael Nadal）獲得銅牌，為日本帶來了96年來的首枚奧運會網球獎牌。日本第二位打入大满贯賽事男单決賽（2014年美網亞軍，上一次是1920年温布頓的[[清水善造]]）。史上九位打進大滿貫賽事八強的亞洲選手之一。
