Sin. 29 301. 1991, not Morong (1892).Leaves filiform, 3.5--6 cm × 0.4--0.6 mm, veins 4. Scapes numerous, 4--10 cm, 4- or 5-ribbed; sheath 1.2--1.8 mm; receptacle glabrous; heads blackish, ovoid-globose, 2--3.5 mm in diam.; involucral bracts reflexed, straw-colored, obovate to oblong, 1.3--1.5 mm, glabrous; floral bracts obovate to oblanceolate-boatlike, glabrous or occasionally with 1 or 2 hairs. Male flowers sepals spathelike, glabrous, apex 3- or irregularly lobed; petals 3, small, equal or anterior one slightly larger than others, usually glabrous, gland black; anthers black. Female flowers borne on margin of head; bracts wider than those of male flowers; sepals 3, free, lanceolate, 0.7--1.2 mm, glabrous or occasionally ciliate, keeled; petals 3, free, linear-oblanceolate, membranous, glabrous, apex emarginate, gland usually present, black or brown; ovary 3-loculed; style 3-cleft.
