波尔多是由[[凯尔特人]]于公元前300年左右建立的，称之为“Burdigala”。公元前60年，波尔多被[[罗马人]]统治。
732年，[[阿卜杜勒·拉赫曼 (安达卢西亚)|阿卜杜勒·拉赫曼]]的军队在击败了[[厄德公爵]]后洗劫了波尔多。随后，波尔多又被海盗光顾。
从12世纪至15世纪，由阿基坦女公爵[[埃利诺]]与[[金雀花王朝]]亨利伯爵结婚始，波尔多成为了[[英国]]的领土。亨利伯爵出生于[[勒芒]]，讲[[法语]]，婚后不久就成为[[亨利二世 (英格兰)|亨利二世]]国王。
