电厂最脏最累的班组属磨煤班，磨煤班里[[工人]]形形色色，[[性格]]各异，他们的生活为该剧增添了不少色彩。程远是个文科大学毕业分来电厂在磨煤班锻炼的大学生，在工人闹事的事件中，为了讨好厂方领导被磨煤班工友们视为“持不同政见者”，遭到排斥。他的女友袁童芳是个非常可爱的姑娘，一心想把他调到厂办报社共同办报，但程远却颇有心计地投靠了鲁燕，成了多经公司的总经理秘书。已是半老徐娘的鲁燕占有了程远，使程远永远失去了男人的尊严，同时也失去了袁童芳那天使般的爱情。
