1958年，为东六家子公社。1984年3月，改为东六家子满族蒙古族乡。1985年12月，改东六家子满族蒙古族镇。2002年3月4日，改为东六家子镇。 2018年，东六家子镇户籍人口15815人 ，截至2020年6月，东六家子镇辖9个行政村。
