Capercaillie，来自苏格兰的一支大牌CelticMusic乐队，主唱凯伦。麦特森(KarenMatheson).作为新式凯尔特歌唱艺术的代表，Capercaillie.雷鸟乐队在流行和传统之间找到了平衡点，既能够用凯尔特语来演绎传统的一面，也尝试用英语使自己的作品在更大范围内进行传播。尤其是主唱凯伦。麦特森，她甚至被誉为"当今最佳凯尔特歌手",极富节奏感的歌谣，哪些对传统民谣进行的现代感改造，令人为之痴狂。他们喜欢用本民族的盖尔语演唱那些古老的歌。他们的音乐融合了传统民间音乐和现代流行音乐元素，使那些从历史上就流传下来的古老音乐有着更多的生命力。
历史
乐队成立于上个世纪80年代早期，最早的成员有歌手KarenMatheson（她是苏格兰著名女歌ElizabethMacNeill的孙女，也曾经是一支民谣乐队theEtives的成员）和键盘手DonaldShaw，他们在同一所中学认识。然后乐队又陆续加入许多成员，包括宝丝蓝鼓（bodhran）手MarcDuff、吉他手JoanMacLachlan、布祖基琴（bouzouki）手ShaunCraig、贝斯和小提琴手MartinMacLeod等。乐队成立后，在当地的几次演出为他们取得了良好的声誉。之后乐队用3天时间快速录制了他们的第一张专辑，Cascade。
之后的Capercaillie几经人员变动，自始至终参与乐队的成员只有atheson、Shaw和Duff。1991年，英国小提琴手CharlieMacNeill加入乐队，这时候他们的第二张专辑Crosswind出版了。又是一张颇受好评的专辑！Capercaillie也因此展开了第一次美国巡演。在Crosswind出版之前他们已经在本土得到承认，一部关于苏格兰盖尔人历史英雄的电视片TheBloodIsStrong找到他们做了Soundtrack。
由于有了爱尔兰著名的 凯尔特音乐家ManusLunny（宝丝蓝鼓手，小提琴手和歌手）的参与，Capercaillie很快成为了凯尔特音乐圈最被看好的乐队，他们的观众群越来越大了。从他们的第四张专辑Sidewaulk开始，在ManusLunny和他的弟弟DonalLunny的参与下，Capercaille也开始在专辑中用英语演唱。第五张专辑Delirium可以看成是他们的音乐事业的一个高峰，专辑把传统的苏格兰民间音乐和现代音乐元素融合到了一起。他们改编了一首有着400年历史的民歌CoisichARuin。这首歌最后登上了英国榜前40名的位置，并被一部英国电视片选中成为主题曲。另外一首歌Breisleach的歌词来自爱丁堡诗人AngusDudb的诗作，也成为另外一部电视的主题曲。
他们的歌很美，很柔软,好像是贴在你耳朵旁边诉说着一个故事, 声音中似乎带着淡淡的忧伤和思念, 让你禁不住想起那些的遥远的事情, 很美的旋律, 它一定会不断回荡在你的耳边.......
关于Capercaillie乐队的核心成员Karen Matheson，美国告示牌杂志Billboard Magazine：“这个时代最棒的盖尔语女声”。 Karen在儿提时期曾参加过Mod音乐节所办的歌唱比赛，除得到“最佳歌手”的奖项外，亦在当时得到“当今最美的 凯尔特女声”赞誉，那时Karen的年纪虽然不大，但却懂得相当多的凯尔特字汇与传统歌谣，主要因素是由于Karen的外婆Elizabeth MacNeill是一名传统歌谣的歌者，她的许多克尔特歌曲都是从那里学来的，而且“雷鸟”乐团之所以有坚实的凯尔特民族元素为创作素材的原因也是源自于此。
“雷鸟”乐团从八四年出版第一张专辑“Cascade”是以民谣团体的姿态出现，而后该团亦为 凯尔特音乐创作了无限可能的出路，他们尝试将其民族乐音加以结合转化，不论流行节奏还是非洲等其他民族的音乐纹脉皆是他们创作素材，九五年他们参加英国的WOMAD音乐节时早已是举世之名的当代凯尔特乐团了。不过在转化的过程中，该团使用的乐器以及成员架构与来自爱尔兰的Clannad家族合唱团（Enya的姐姐Maire (Moya) Brennan为主唱）有些近似，也因此许多乐迷都喜欢将这两团做为比较。若您听过Clannad与Capercaillie的作品，其实您能发现这之间还是有明显不同，前者虽然来自 凯尔特民族根据地之一的爱尔兰但是其音乐元素比起后者较感觉不出有凯尔特民族的传统风韵。
评论
Karen Matheson可以说是最传统、最正宗的Celtic风格的代表，Clannad乐队其实无论成就的数量还是质量都无可比性，倒是另外一支著名的Celtic乐队Altan与之相似程度更高，当然风格也是有差异的。
Karen Matheson的演唱，是一种起伏变化迅速的“哼唱”类型，与Enya的慢速吟唱相比，这样的风格要想唱得出优美、纯净、连贯的旋律，对歌手来说难度极大，但Karen Matheson却完美地做到了，抛开突出的音乐创作能力不谈，这本身就已经足够吸引人了。“这个时代最棒的盖尔语女声”的确实至名归。
也许是不懂盖尔语的缘故，国内知道Karen Matheson的本来就不多，大多局限于她的单独的三张个人专辑，知道把她和Capercaillie（雷鸟）联系在一起的人更少（Capercaillie也只在一些Celtic合集里偶尔露面而已），殊不知Karen Matheson的主要成就恰恰就是在Capercaillie之中，这与Celtic在音乐界如雷贯耳的事实很不协调。由于搜集的专辑比较多，逐一筛选也是份苦差事，索性直接发个全集，让大家自己来鉴赏。
