斯佩克特再次出現在世人面前，卻是因為一件謀殺案。2003年，當時的女演員 拉娜·克拉克森（Lana Clarkson）在家裡被槍殺。斯佩克特被指控犯有謀殺罪，由於陪審團無法達成一致的決定，他的2007年審判失敗了。在2008年10月開始的重審，第二陪審團裁定斯佩克特犯有二級謀殺罪，並於2009年5月被判處19年無期徒刑。至今仍在獄中服刑。
