圆锥花序腋生，常为伞形，多花(12-20)密集；总梗短，长2-6毫米，被锈色微柔毛，基部具苞片，长三角形，长约1毫米，密被锈色微柔毛；花萼近基部联合，裂片5，覆瓦状排列，卵状三角形，长约2毫米，宽约1.5毫米，外面被锈色微柔毛，内面无毛；花冠长约5毫米，5裂，裂片卵圆形，长约3毫米；能育雄蕊5，与花冠裂片对生，花丝钻形，长约2毫米，花药卵形，长约1毫米；退化雄蕊5，花瓣状，长约3毫米，花后延长。

浆果卵球形，长达2.4厘米，无毛，绿转黑色；种子1枚，长圆状卵圆形，长达2厘米，具圆形、近基生的疤痕，子叶叶状，稍肥厚，长1.8厘米，宽6毫米，胚根扁柱形，长3毫米。
Trees 5--15 m tall. Young parts soon glabrescent. Branchlets striate, with small and dense lenticels. Leaves alternate; petiole 1--1.5 cm; leaf blade oblanceolate, 9--20 X 2--5 cm, leathery, both surfaces glabrous, apex acuminate, veins conspicuous. Flowers in axillary panicle, usually umbellate, 12--20, closely clustered; peduncle 2--6 mm, rust colored pubescent. Calyx connate at base; sepals 5, ovate-triangular, ca. 2 X 1.5 mm, outside rust colored pubescent, inside glabrous. Corolla ca. 5 mm; lobes 5, ovate. Staminodes 5, petal-like, 3 mm, lengthening after flowering. Fruit a berry, green becoming black, ovoid, ca. 2.4 cm, glabrous. Seed 1, oblong-ovoid, ca. 2 cm; scar rounded, sub-basal. Fl. May, fr. Nov.

The criteria for placing this species in Sinosideroxylon is based on Auberville's view-point (Fl. Cambodge, Laos & Vietnam 3: 6. 1963.) that seed characters are important for generic delimitations.
