據說，發明者當初之所以把這種汽水選擇黃顏色，因為他認為這種顏色能使人開胃，甜甜的香味非常適合秘魯人的口味。這種黃顏色、略帶[[菠蘿]]味道的飲料，為了迎合秘魯人的民族感情，他們將這種飲料取名印加可樂。
雖然印加可樂在秘魯飲料界的地位毋庸置疑，但它的起源卻多少令人有些意外：印加可樂的發明人並不是土生土長的秘魯人，而是從[[英國]]移民到秘魯的一對夫妻。
林德利夫妻改良了[[土著]]秘魯人的「祖傳祕方」，一種以13種秘魯[[傳統草藥]]為基礎，以[[檸檬馬鞭草]]為主要原料的汽水誕生了，味道正是林德利所夢寐以求的甜香。

1911年，一位[[英格兰]]移民约瑟夫·罗宾逊·林德利和妻子兩人，在[[利馬]]開了一家以自己的姓氏 Lindley 命名的小廠，成立一家罐装公司，后改名为[[林德利集团]]，並在1928年起的7年時間裡，一直在堅持希望研發一款無與倫比的飲料。
