==親戚曾於濟南開設山東大戲院（現中國電影院），自幼對戲劇有濃厚興趣。1930年高中畢業後曾組織話劇團在山東一帶從事話劇演出。1933年於[[上海]]新華藝術專科學院就讀，同期加入[[邵氏公司]]前身之[[天一影片公司]]拍攝電影。[[中日戰爭]]爆發後，轉往濟南組織救亡演技隊，於[[徐州]]、[[陝西]]一帶演出《保家鄉》、《還我故鄉》等鼓吹抗日救國之舞台劇。後至[[重慶]]加入[[中國電影製片廠]]，並參加[[中國萬歲劇團]]、兼演員和化妝主任兩職。 抗戰勝利後，井淼回到上海先後參加《人海妖魔》、《森林大血案》等多部影片之演出。1949年受聘擔任[[台灣]]社會劇團團長之職，訓練劇藝人才，並於各地演出話劇，此外亦曾參加演出《血戰保中華》、《翠嶺長春》、《情報販子》等片。 1963年，井淼赴港加盟[[邵氏公司]]基本演員，並任南國實驗劇團講師。期間演出近百部電影，以《[[新啼笑姻緣]]》（或名《[[故都春夢]]》）和《[[烽火萬里情]]》兩部影片，先後於1964年和1967年榮獲第三屆及第六屆[[金馬獎]]最佳男配角獎。當時他與共演《新啼笑姻緣》的[[雷鳴 (臺灣演員)|雷鳴]]、[[李影 (臺灣演員)|李影]]、[[田豐 (演員)|田豐]]，並稱香港演藝圈的「臺灣四大金剛」<ref name=udn1986>{{cite news|title=戲劇 人生
