50年代[[刘海粟]]曾写信向郭沫若推荐介绍一位刺绣大师，说她"奇意密思，多有创造"；"以针为笔，以丝为丹青，使画与绣法融为一体，自成品格，夺苏绣湘绣之先声，登刺绣艺术之高峰。见者莫不誉为'神针'"。被刘海粟誉为"神针"的这位刺绣大师就是他的表妹杨守玉。（1896～1981）。
