1861年，摩納哥與法國簽訂法國-摩納哥條約，摩納哥放棄[[芒通]](Menton)、[[羅克布倫]](Roquebrune)的所有權，法國承認摩納哥獨立，摩納哥領土從20平方公里縮小至現今面積並於同年建立[[關稅同盟]]。1911年頒布[[憲法]]，成為[[君主立憲國]]。
